Sonja's Violeta
Sonja's Violeta is a named avicultural color line of Indian peafowl, Pavo cristatus, rather than a separate species. The label is used for birds selected for a violet or mauve cast within the familiar peacock form: crested head, long train in mature males, and slimmer, less ornate hens. Because this is a specialized line, descriptions may vary between collections, and the color can be discussed alongside barred-wing, black-shoulder, pied, silver pied, or white-eyed pattern genes.
Keeping Sonja's Violeta birds is essentially Indian peafowl husbandry. They need secure outdoor space, high roosts, dry shelter, and protection from dogs, foxes, raccoons, and nighttime stress. Breeding projects depend on careful pairing and photo-based records, especially when several color genes are present in the same flock. Chicks are usually brooded like other peachicks, with warmth, clean footing, and a gamebird starter before moving to larger grow-out pens.
