Indigo / Hazel
Indigo / Hazel is a less standardized color designation used by some Indian peafowl breeders for lines that sit between familiar blue, purple, brown, and greenish tones. The name is not interpreted as consistently as India Blue, Purple, or White, and in casual listings it may describe a breeder's strain as much as a clearly documented mutation. Birds sold under this label are still Pavo cristatus and may also show barred-wing, black-shoulder, pied, silver pied, or white-eyed patterning.
Because the label is uncommon, careful buying matters. Ask to see adult males, hens, and young from the same pen if color inheritance is part of the purchase. Photographs in shade can make blue, jade, midnight, or purple birds look similar, so natural-light images after molt are more useful. Husbandry follows standard peafowl practice: secure outdoor housing, high roosts, shelter from wet ground, and enough room for mature cocks to carry a full train without constant feather breakage.
