Cobra
The cobra guppy is a patterned fancy guppy whose body markings can look like linked chains, vertical bars, rosettes, or small scale-like blocks. The name describes the visual effect and has no reptile connection. Cobra patterning can sit over many base colors, including yellow, blue, red, green, and metallic tones, and trade names often overlap with snakeskin guppies. Some lines carry the pattern mainly on the body, while others extend it into the caudal fin.
A strong cobra line is judged by pattern clarity, body shape, and fin condition rather than color alone. Breeders choose males whose markings remain readable as they mature and use females from recorded families because pattern genes may be less obvious in them. In aquariums, cobra guppies do well in planted livebearer tanks with stable water, moderate current, and enough cover for fry. Line-breeding should be managed carefully so the fish do not drift into weak bodies, ragged fins, or generic mixed-color stock.
