Bloodred

Bloodred corn snakes are a color and pattern line within Pantherophis guttatus, associated with intense red adult coloration and the diffused pattern gene. Diffused reduces the normal checkerboard belly and softens the side pattern, while line breeding selects for the saturated red that gives the morph its name. Hatchlings are often less dramatic than adults, showing brownish or orange tones before the red fills in over several sheds. The label can be used loosely, so a listing should ideally say whether the snake is visual diffused, from bloodred lines, or carrying additional genes such as hypo, amel, or charcoal.

In care, bloodred corn snakes are ordinary corn snakes: solitary, mostly terrestrial rat snakes that need secure housing and a steady feeding routine. Their deeper color does not change heating, humidity, or prey requirements. Because early bloodred lines were sometimes narrowly bred, many keepers value animals from breeders who select for strong feeding, normal growth, and healthy hatchling size as well as color. Adults show their color best when they have cover and are not overhandled, but a calm temperament and reliable feeding history matter more than the darkest red.
