Locality
Irian Jaya is the hobby name for carpet pythons from western New Guinea, the Indonesian region formerly called Irian Jaya. They are usually treated as part of Morelia spilota variegata. Color is variable, often brown, gray or tan with a busy blotched pattern and less yellow than many Australian forms. Much of the early captive stock was imported, so locality and lineage notes are especially useful for these snakes.
