Unknown Breed
Unknown breed budgerigar is a record or adoption label for a Melopsittacus undulatus whose strain, show type, or parentage has not been identified. Many such birds are ordinary companion budgies from pet-trade or backyard aviary lines, and some may carry recognizable color mutations even when their broader breeding background is unclear. The term does not imply a hybrid with another parrot; it usually means the bird's history was not supplied or cannot be verified.
Practical care should be based on the species and the individual bird, not on an assumed breed. Age estimate, sex, body condition, feather quality, breathing, droppings, and behavior are more useful to a keeper or rescue than a guessed label. Unknown-breed budgies should not be used for planned color or show breeding unless their health and relationships to potential mates are understood. As companions, they need the same social contact, flight space, and gradual diet improvement as any other budgerigar.
