IMG

The IMG boa constrictor carries the Increasing Melanin Gene, a morph that darkens as the animal matures. Hatchlings may still show a recognizable boa pattern, then gain charcoal, black, or high-contrast tones through successive sheds. The adult appearance can be much darker than the young snake suggests, and IMG is often combined with hypo, ghost, jungle, motley, albino, and other boa projects to change contrast and depth.

Husbandry does not differ from other boa constrictors, but long-term planning matters because boas become large, powerful snakes and IMG color development takes time. Buyers should compare young animals with photos of parents, older siblings, or the same animal over several sheds when possible. Breeders need accurate pairing notes because visual appearance alone may not explain which traits are present, especially in complex combinations where darkening can obscure pattern details.
