Leatherback Trans

The leatherback trans is a captive bearded dragon morph, not a separate species from Pogona vitticeps. It combines the leatherback scale trait, which reduces the raised dorsal scales and gives the body a smoother, brighter-looking surface, with the translucent, or trans, trait. Trans dragons often hatch with a bluish or partly see-through belly and may have unusually dark or solid-looking eyes. The combination is seen in many color projects, including citrus, orange, red, and hypo trans lines, so the label describes genetics and texture more than a single color.

Care needs remain those of a central bearded dragon: strong basking heat, high-quality UVB, a secure dry enclosure, insects and greens adjusted by age, and room to climb and thermoregulate. Smoother scales can make shedding and minor skin abrasions easier to notice, so rough decor and stuck shed deserve attention. Buyers should ask whether the dragon is visual trans or merely het trans, and how the leatherback trait was produced. Pairing leatherbacks together can produce silkbacks, a higher-maintenance scaleless form, so breeding plans should be deliberate rather than based only on color.
