Red
Red bearded dragons are captive-bred Pogona vitticeps selected for strong red pigmentation, usually through line-bred color families rather than a single mutation. The name covers a broad range, from orange-red and brick to deeper crimson tones, and many animals still retain some banding or brown shading. Trade names such as blood red, ruby, or extreme red can reflect a breeder's line more than an independent genetic category. Color often intensifies through juvenile sheds, then settles with age, season, temperature, and breeding condition.
A healthy red dragon should be judged under normal light and in good body condition, since photo editing and warm basking posture can exaggerate pigment. Husbandry remains standard for the species: a hot basking area, strong UVB, dry but not stagnant airflow, and a varied diet of insects and greens. Red lines can be combined with hypo, leatherback, trans, tiger, or Dunner traits, so buyers should ask what is visible and what is only carried. For breeding projects, avoid narrowing choices to color alone; solid structure, appetite, fertility, and unrelated stock protect the line better than chasing the darkest hatchlings.
