Huacaya

The Huacaya alpaca is one of the two primary breeds of alpacas, known for its fluffy, teddy bear-like appearance. Characterized by its dense, crimped fleece that grows perpendicular to the skin, the Huacaya has a distinctive and voluminous woolly coat, which makes it particularly desirable in the fiber industry. This breed is well-adapted to the harsh climates of the Andean highlands, from where it originates, but has also acclimatized well to various environments worldwide. Huacaya alpacas are generally more robust and compact compared to the other breed, the Suri, with a more rounded body and shorter neck. Their docile and gentle temperament makes them excellent livestock for farmers and a delightful addition to alpaca farms. Available in a wide range of natural colors—from white and fawn to brown and black—Huacayas are prized for the quality and versatility of their fiber, often used to create luxurious textiles. With their charming appearance and agreeable nature, Huacaya alpacas continue to captivate both fiber enthusiasts and animal lovers alike.
