Zebu Cattle Co

Zebu Cattle Co raises miniature zebu cattle in Marshfield, Missouri, in the Ozarks region of Webster County, roughly 30 miles east of Springfield. Danis Nickell has been building her herd on a 65-acre farm since 2000, giving the operation well over two decades of experience with the breed.

The herd has grown to around 50 head and includes both IMZA- and AMZA-registered animals. A particular focus of the program has been developing spotted and painted coloring, a rarer variation within miniature zebu that Danis has worked to produce through intentional bloodline selection. Most of the herd stands between 34 and 36 inches tall, comfortably within the breed's standards.

Cattle are managed with careful attention to climate considerations. The farm provides barn and shelter access to protect animals through Missouri winters, and Danis plans calving schedules around spring to avoid putting newborns into cold weather. Bottle calves are raised indoors during their first week of life and fed a soy-free milk protein blend.
