Winters Run raises Siberian huskies in Joppa, Maryland, in the greater Baltimore area of Harford County. The program is guided by Tracy Smith, who holds a PhD in evolutionary genetics and works as a biology professor, bringing a research-informed perspective to every breeding decision.

The goal of the program is to produce Siberian husky puppies in Maryland that are structurally sound, healthy, and temperamentally stable — dogs equally suited to their original working function and to life as long-term family companions. Breeding selections are made with careful attention to AKC conformation standards alongside genetic soundness, drawing on well-bred dogs whose pedigrees have been selected for these traits across multiple generations.

Puppy rearing follows Puppy Culture and Avidog protocols, which use current scientific research to support neurological development and socialization during critical early weeks. Litters are also exposed to early neurological stimulation and scent introduction to encourage cognitive development and sensory awareness. Nomograph testing is performed on dams to help determine the most effective vaccination timing for each litter. Tracy is additionally pursuing certification in applied canine ethology, further grounding the program in behavioral science.
