Whitney Steckel

Whitney Steckel breeds Hereford cattle in Taylor, NE, in Loup County and central Nebraska near Grand Island. With more than 15 years of experience and membership in the American Hereford Association, Steckel follows rigorous health testing to maintain genetic soundness.

Calves graze on rotational pastures and receive daily handling to foster gentle temperament. The ranch’s grass-based feeding plan and low-stress weaning support natural development and well-balanced growth. Several of their Hereford bulls have placed at regional livestock shows and have gone on to sire productive herds across the Midwest.

All cattle have access to fresh water from on-site wells and are shelter-trained before winter to reduce stress during temperature shifts. Steckel maintains detailed performance records for growth rates and maternal traits, sharing data transparently with buyers to help them make informed breeding decisions. Yearling heifers and bulls are raised under the same program to ensure consistency across future herds.
