Whitaker Farms

Whitaker Farms raises registered Hereford cattle in Hart, Texas, in the heart of the Texas Panhandle roughly 60 miles southwest of Amarillo. Steve and LaNell Whitaker, who married in 1986, built the operation together on the high plains — a region Steve had set his sights on farming since his college days at Tarleton State University. LaNell later earned a degree in Agriculture Economics from Texas A&M University, giving the family a strong agricultural foundation on both sides.

The program, known as Flying 5 Herefords, entered the purebred Hereford business in 2005. What began with a focus on show steers has since shifted toward producing high-quality breeding stock for ranchers seeking registered Hereford cattle in Texas and beyond. Bulls from the program are registered through the American Hereford Association, receive veterinary breeding soundness exams, and are kept current on vaccinations. The Whitakers are also members of the Texas Hereford Association, reflecting their long-standing commitment to the breed and the broader Hereford community in the state.
