Whirlaway

Whirlaway has been breeding Rhodesian ridgebacks in Mohnton, Pennsylvania, in Berks County about 60 miles west of Philadelphia, since 1997. The program was founded by Jen Lazowski, and Christine Kitsch later joined as co-owner, bringing with her extensive animal husbandry knowledge and a quiet, hands-on approach with the dogs.

The kennel operates on a deliberately low-volume schedule, producing one or two litters per year with a strong emphasis on consistency across generations. All breeding stock is health-tested for cardiac function, eyes (CERF), thyroid, hip and elbow dysplasia, and degenerative myelopathy, and every puppy is examined by a licensed veterinarian before going home.

Whirlaway's show record reflects the depth of its breeding lines. A dog tracing back to the kennel's foundation bitch became the number-one Rhodesian ridgeback in the United States in 2012, won the National Specialty, took Best of Breed at Westminster in 2013, and won the Eukanuba Classic that same year. A later generation produced a multiple Group-placing, multiple Best in Show dog who earned Select Dog at the National Specialty in 2021.
