University FFA, Katahdin sheep, Orlando, FL, serves Orange County and Central Florida near Tampa. Its program follows guidelines from the American Katahdin Sheep Association and promotes routine health screening. Lambs graze on well-managed pastures and receive daily handling as part of an educational curriculum. As a school-based breeding project, care is overseen by Kim Acton and students at University FFA, combining classroom instruction with hands-on husbandry.

This approach fosters resilience and gentle temperaments in the flock while supporting youth development in agriculture. The flock is maintained in small groups to encourage natural flock behavior, with rotational grazing to support pasture health and reduce parasite load. University FFA’s emphasis on hands-on learning provides students with experience in genetics selection, animal nutrition, and record keeping, reflecting a holistic approach to livestock education. Katahdin sheep are valued for their parasite resistance and lean meat, traits that reinforce the program’s focus on practical production skills for students.
