The Poppystead

The Poppystead is a breeder of fainting (myotonic) goats in Waupaca, WI, serving central Wisconsin near Appleton.

Dana Marie Poppy has been raising fainting goats for more than ten years and maintains membership in the American Goat Society with routine health testing of every herd member. Her herd of around fifteen registered does and bucks grazes on rotational pasture, and kids spend early weeks in a straw-bedded barn for close health monitoring. Feeding alternates between grass hay, alfalfa, and trace mineral supplements to support balanced development and sturdy build. Each goat receives daily handling to foster a calm temperament and ease during vet visits.

The Poppystead farm combines sustainable practices with selective breeding focused on sturdy structure and gentle disposition. Visitors appreciate the approachable herd and detailed conversations about goat care. Seasonal county fairs often feature Poppystead goats, giving visitors a chance to observe breeding stock in a working environment.
