T Bar S Cattle Company raises Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle in Billings, Missouri, in the heart of the Ozarks south of Springfield. Tom Vehige founded the operation in 1993, building the herd from a foundation of purebred Gelbvieh females after early experience with the breed convinced him of its performance potential.
Run as a true family operation, Tom and his wife Stacy work alongside their children Justin, Kyle, and Grace, all of whom grew up active in the cattle program. The Vehige family has been long-standing members of the American Gelbvieh Association and the Heart of America Gelbvieh Association, and all three of their children have served on the American Gelbvieh Junior Association board of directors.
The program focuses on producing functional, easy-fleshing cattle that can hold condition on forages while still delivering in the showring. A guiding principle on the farm is selecting animals that perform as both show cattle and productive range cows. In 2021, the American Gelbvieh Association recognized T Bar S with its Breeder of the Year award.
