Summerwind Australian Shepherds- Liz Alward

Summerwind Australian Shepherds, run by Liz Alward in Red Bluff, California, breeds Australian shepherds and miniature American shepherds on a working farm in the northern Sacramento Valley, roughly an hour south of Redding. Liz and her husband Bill, a retired teacher and retired law enforcement officer respectively, have kept Australian shepherds for around 25 years, starting with herding-line dogs before shifting toward conformation bloodlines.

The program produces AKC-registered puppies from pedigrees rooted in Hall of Fame kennels, with dogs earning AKC and ASCA titles across obedience, rally, agility, herding, scent work, and conformation. The kennel's current sire is a full brother to the 2025 AKC number-one Australian shepherd, and the program includes littermates to the 2024 AKC number-one Aussie as well. Health testing for parents includes OFA hip and elbow X-rays, CERF eye exams, and additional genetic screening, with documentation available on request.

Puppies are raised inside the home and socialized continuously from birth, with a focus on sound temperament alongside competitive structure. The farm also raises hay and show horses, so the dogs grow up in an active rural environment. Miniature American shepherds were added more recently as a natural companion to the established Australian shepherd for sale in Northern California program. Across both breeds, the stated priority is health and outgoing temperament first, with the pedigree depth to support dogs heading into either sport competition or companion homes.
