Sterling Hills Farm

Sterling Hills Farm raises miniature Highland cattle on just over 70 acres in Loudoun County, Virginia, about 45 minutes outside of Washington, D.C. Shawn and Robin, the farm's owners, established the program in 2020 with a focus on producing calm, good-natured cattle for families and homesteaders seeking miniature highland cattle in Virginia.

The property runs along Catoctin Creek just north of historic Waterford, with roughly 50 of its acres dedicated to sustainable operations. Rotational grazing is practiced throughout those pastures, and meticulous field harrowing supports fly and pasture management. Seven freeze-proof watering systems are distributed across the farm to give cattle consistent access to clean water while protecting local waterways and native vegetation. Sterling Hills Farm is also held in conservation with The Land Trust of Virginia, reflecting a long-term commitment to land stewardship.

Temperament is the farm's stated top priority in selecting and breeding its mini-midsized Highlands, with calm and good-natured cattle coming first. The herd is housed in a 1,800-square-foot barn featuring five stalls, a washroom, and a covered workstation used for training, vaccinations, and year-round care. Each cow in the herd is individually selected to produce genetics the farm stands behind, and UC Davis genetic marker testing is on file for certain animals.
