Starfire Gypsies

Starfire Gypsies raises gypsy vanner horses in Bangor, California, a rural community in Butte County roughly an hour north of Sacramento. Samantha and CJ VanSickle are lifelong equestrians who operate the program together, bringing a hands-on, individualized approach to both breeding and horsemanship.

The operation maintains several stallions standing at stud, including horses registered with the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society, and some stallions in the program carry GVHS 5 Star evaluations. Foals produced at Starfire are GVHS registered, and the program screens horses for PSSM1 and FIS, two genetic conditions monitored in the breed. Shipped semen is available for outside mares, making Starfire Gypsies a resource for gypsy vanner breeders in California and beyond.

Beyond breeding, the facility runs a training center where each horse is developed through a customized program, and the team has also established an equine outreach component that includes bi-weekly visits with their local Easter Seals program.
