Star Creek Ranch

Star Creek Ranch is a working Texas Longhorn cattle operation outside Somerville, Texas, about 25 miles from College Station and Texas A&M University. Owned and operated by Darlene Aldridge, D.V.M., the ranch has been raising registered Texas longhorns since 1997 and sits on a larger rural property with dry creek beds throughout — the landscape that inspired the ranch's name and five-pointed star brand.

Aldridge's veterinary background shapes every aspect of the program. The herd follows a strict health protocol that includes vaccinations, regular deworming, and screening for Johnes disease, BVD, and Trichomoniasis in bulls. Horn growth and health records are maintained for every animal. Each cow is individually evaluated each breeding season and matched to a complementary bull, with outside bloodlines introduced through artificial insemination and an active embryo transfer program.

The breeding focus centers on what Aldridge calls the "total animal" — pursuing strong horn growth without compromising udder health, correct conformation, and calm temperament. Herd sires are selected for their ability to contribute horn length, brindle color, and structural soundness. In 2011, Aldridge received the TLBAA Dave Evans Breeder of the Year Award, and in 2020 was honored with the TLBAA Elmer Parker Lifetime Achievement Award.
