Southfork Ranch

Southfork Ranch, run by Shannon Rives, raises boxers, chow chows, and Parson Russell terriers in Peabody, Kansas, in the Flint Hills region south of Wichita. The program approaches every breeding with six guiding considerations — health, livability, structure, ability, and related factors — rather than focusing on any single trait in isolation.

Health assessment is central to how breeding decisions are made at Southfork Ranch. Dogs are thoroughly evaluated, and the data gathered from those assessments directly informs every planned pairing. Each puppy leaves with a health warranty and lifetime breeder support.

Livability is an equally deliberate focus. The program selects for dogs that are calm with children, adaptable to new environments, and easy to integrate into daily household routines. On the structure side, adult dogs are evaluated against AKC breed standards, and feedback from licensed judges in the show ring serves as one measure of how well those standards are being met. Southfork Ranch also aims to preserve each breed's original form and function, keeping natural working ability part of the selection picture alongside conformation and temperament. The ranch itself spans 165 acres, giving dogs and livestock room to move and live well.
