Shooting Star Sheep
Shooting Star Sheep is a small flock of miniature spotted sheep based in Saint Helena, in the heart of Napa Valley, about 30 minutes from the city of Napa. The flock focuses on registered Harlequin sheep, with crossbred Babydoll Southdown and Finnsheep also part of the program.
Founded around 2022, the operation got its start when the owner sought out something beyond the Dorpers and commercial breeds common to the Northern California region, ultimately sourcing a founding trio of Harlequins from Oregon. The flock is registered with the Harlequin Sheep Society and Registry. Those looking for registered mini sheep for sale in Northern California will find the program covers multiple purposes: grazing, wool fiber, breeding, and educational use.
Every animal in the flock receives daily handling, is halter trained, and is kept current on vaccinations and worming. The crossbreeding side of the program pairs Babydoll Southdown and Finnsheep genetics with Harlequin lines, with an eye toward traits like finer wool, increased milk production, and varied spotting patterns across generations.
