Sheffield Pugs
Sheffield Pugs has been producing pugs in Clayton, Ohio, in the Dayton area, since 1961, when founder Margery A. Shriver bred and finished her first home-bred champion. Bonita Fichtenbaum joined the program in the early 2000s and has carried forward the standards Margery established, making Sheffield one of the longer-running pug breeding programs in the country.
The kennel holds AKC Breeder of Merit status and is a member of the Pug Dog Club of America. Approaching 150 AKC champions over its history, the program has also earned titles in AKC Companion Events including Agility, Obedience, and Rally — a reflection of the emphasis placed on temperament and trainability alongside conformation.
Families looking for pug puppies in Ohio will find that Sheffield's placement process is deliberate. Puppies remain with the program until at least 16 weeks, receiving full veterinary checks, vaccinations, and microchipping before going home. That extended time with littermates and adult dogs supports socialization, and the kennel uses the interval to match each pup to a compatible household. A lifetime guarantee accompanies every placement, and Bonita remains a resource for owners well beyond the point of sale.
