Schott Limousin Ranch

Schott Limousin Ranch, run by James G. Schott and family, raises registered Limousin cattle on the rolling rangeland of McLaughlin, South Dakota, along the western banks of the Missouri River in the northern reaches of the state, roughly two hours north of Pierre.

A North American Limousin Foundation member since 1983, the ranch has built a long track record in the registered Limousin cattle community in South Dakota. That commitment was recognized at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, where the ranch received the NALF Commercial Marketing Booster of the Year award in 2008. James Schott was also named South Dakota Cattleman of the Year in 2000 and received the NOCA outstanding service award in 2001.

The operation is a family enterprise, with Jim, his wife Priscilla, and son Jared all involved in day-to-day ranch work. Their production sale, held annually in nearby Mobridge, SD, has averaged around 65 bulls per year, with the overwhelming majority going to commercial cow-calf producers. Cattle quality and the success of bull customers are stated priorities, and the ranch has participated in NALF carcass-discovery projects to support genetic evaluation and breed research.
