Romn Limousin

Romn Limousin raises registered Limousin cattle in Arlington, South Dakota, a short drive west of Watertown in the eastern part of the state. Robert "Cookie" Nielson laid the groundwork for the program in the late 1970s after observing the yield premium that Limousin-influenced calves earned on the rail, and the operation has grown across generations of the Nielson family since.

The herd centers on roughly 180 head of registered red and black, mostly polled Limousin cattle alongside a set of crossbred cows, supported by about 1,000 acres of row crops including corn, beans, and oats. Selection has long emphasized docility, structure, phenotype, and reproductive soundness, with weaning and yearling data along with EPDs guiding culling decisions. The operation also includes a club calf and show heifer component alongside its registered bull program.

Romn Limousin has earned recognition at several regional events, including Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Limousin bull honors at the Sioux Empire Farm Show and top pen honors at the National Western Stock Show in Denver.
