Rolling 7 Ranch Co
Rolling 7 Ranch Co raises miniature highland cattle in the Nebraska Sandhills, near Broken Bow in central Nebraska. The operation grows out of Rolling 7 Ranch Company, a family beef ranch with roots stretching back to 1902, where black Angus cattle have been raised for well over a century.
The miniature cattle program began in 2015 and has since grown to a herd of more than 165 cows and six herd bulls. Alongside miniature highlands — the foundation of the program — the ranch also carries belted Galloway and British white cattle. Buyers looking for miniature highland cattle for sale in Nebraska will find animals that are raised on open grass pasture alongside the ranch's commercial Angus herd, managed the same way the family has worked cattle for generations.
Breeding decisions emphasize temperament and conformation. The program uses chondro-negative females paired with chondro-positive highland bulls, a deliberate approach to managing the gene responsible for the miniatures' compact size. The ranch has also done some crossbreeding among its highlands, resulting in a variety of coat colors and patterns across the calf crop. The minis are managed with minimal supplemental feeding requirements and are suited for small acreage ownership.
