Rocking Robin Ranch
Rocking Robin Ranch raises miniature Jersey cattle in Prescott, Arizona, situated near the Prescott National Forest in the high-desert mountains about 100 miles north of Phoenix. John and Robyn Hutchison established the ranch in 2003, settling on 62 acres of off-grid terrain where the landscape transitions between southern and northern Arizona — a mix of pine, oak, and high desert.
The program has focused on miniature Jersey cattle for over 20 years, building a reputation as one of Arizona's most established sources for miniature Jersey cattle in the state. The herd is bred with an emphasis on A2/A2 genetics, and the ranch has produced bulls whose semen has been used in breeding programs well beyond Arizona. Two Rocking Robin Ranch cows were even acquired by the Phoenix Zoo in 2017, a nod to the quality of the animals the program has developed over the decades.
The Hutchisons have operated the ranch largely off-grid, drawing power from solar panels and water from a well, while pursuing a genuinely self-sufficient homestead. The cattle are raised in a rugged mountain setting that shapes animals bred to be easy keepers on small acreage.
