Philo Ridge Farm

Philo Ridge Farm raises belted Galloway cattle on 500 certified organic acres in Charlotte, Vermont, in the Champlain Valley just south of Burlington. The farm welcomed its first belted Galloway herd in 2016 and has since grown the program to around 100 head, making it a notable source of belted Galloway cattle in Vermont.

The cattle are central to the farm's regenerative agriculture model. Over 300 acres of perennial pasture are managed through daily rotational grazing, with temporary fencing moved each day so livestock always access fresh, high-quality forage while fields receive long rest periods to fully regenerate. The herd's manure cycles nutrients back into the soil, supporting the diverse grasses, forbs, and legumes that make up the perennial pasture system.

Philo Ridge Farm transitioned to nonprofit 501(c)(3) status in 2024, operating as a working demonstration farm. The belted Galloway cattle share the land with sheep, pigs, poultry, and two acres of organic produce, all managed within a closed-loop system grounded in soil health and long-term ecological sustainability.
