Okefenokee Basset Hounds

Okefenokee Basset Hounds raises AKC-registered basset hounds in Patterson, Georgia, where owner Stephanie Gill has built a program around both American and European lines. Patterson sits in the heart of the Okefenokee region of southeast Georgia, roughly an hour southwest of Waycross.

The dogs are not kenneled in cages or kept on chains. Instead, the hounds live alongside the family and have access to a climate-controlled dog house — complete with heat and air conditioning, a bathtub, and a grooming table — making it a hands-on, home-centered setup for basset hound puppies in Georgia.

Parent dogs have passed both health and genetic testing before being bred. The program covers both the American and European types of the basset hound, giving families a choice between the two distinct styles within a single, family-run operation.
