Nile Valley Farm has raised shorthorn cattle southeast of Sedalia, Missouri, since a family tradition that traces to 1903, when the Hendrickson family's ancestors first registered Durham cattle in Nebraska. The operation was relocated to Missouri in the early 1970s, and the Hendrickson family has worked the same ground ever since, building a herd shaped by more than a century of selective breeding.

The program is rooted in grass-based husbandry. Cattle are raised without antibiotics, growth hormones, or implants, and pastures are managed through rotational grazing across multiple paddocks separated by electric fence, with frequent clipping during the growing season to keep fresh forage available. The focus on body capacity — depth of rib, heart girth, and overall volume — reflects the farm's emphasis on cows that can efficiently convert fescue pasture into both milk and beef, a practical priority for central Missouri's fescue-heavy landscape near Jefferson City.
