Newfoundland Ventures

Newfoundland Ventures, run by Beth Hitchcock, breeds Newfoundland dogs in Bremerton, Washington, about 15 miles west of Seattle across Puget Sound. The program grew out of a personal love for the breed, starting with a dog named Stella and later adding a second Newfoundland named Scout.

Puppies are kept until at least ten weeks of age, at which point each receives a wellness check that includes an evaluation for heart murmurs. If a murmur is detected, the program covers the cost of follow-up diagnostic testing to determine whether it is physiologic or a true concern. The health guarantee extends to hereditary genetic defects affecting the heart, liver, kidneys, and lungs through the puppy's first year of life.
