Meriville Farm has raised milking shorthorn cattle in Earlville, Illinois since 1936, making it one of the longer-running shorthorn programs in the north-central part of the state. The Hoffman family operation sits on an Illinois prairie roughly an hour southwest of Aurora, in the heart of DeKalb County farm country.

The program was founded by Kenneth Hoffman and traces its herd sires through generations of carefully kept pedigrees. Winifred Hoffman, who joined the farm in the 1980s, along with daughter Martha now carry the breeding program forward. Their selection philosophy centers on dual-purpose milking shorthorn cattle that thrive on pasture and convert grass efficiently into milk, deliberately avoiding the shift toward heavier Holstein influence that reshaped much of the modern shorthorn dairy world.

Linebreeding has been a deliberate and long-practiced tool at Meriville, with the farm's own Meriville Peerless bull standing as a foundational figure in their sire lines. The program has consistently prioritized well-attached udders, reliable milk production, calving ease, and sound feet and legs. Homozygous polled sires have also been developed within the milking shorthorn herd, giving buyers interested in naturally hornless genetics additional options. Dutch Belted cattle are raised alongside the shorthorns, rounding out a grass-based program with decades of documented pedigree depth behind it.
