Meadowgate Alpacas

Meadowgate Alpacas has been raising alpacas in Beaverdam, Virginia since 2017, when Stephen and Nicole Phillips established the farm after relocating their family to the state years earlier. The property sits on 10 acres of pastureland bordered by forest and the Newfound River, about 30 miles north of Richmond in Hanover County.

The Phillips family deliberately keeps their herd small, maintaining fewer than 35 alpacas at any given time. That intentional scale allows them to give focused attention to the health, social disposition, and fiber quality of each individual animal rather than managing for volume. Both fiber production and the character of each alpaca serve as the guiding standards for their breeding program.

Those looking for alpacas for sale in Virginia from a family-run operation will find that Meadowgate's program centers on producing animals described as "bright contributions to any farm," with sound temperaments and quality fiber as the dual benchmarks for selection.
