Lion's Pride Kennels

Lion's Pride Kennels has been raising AKC Chesapeake Bay retrievers on a working farm in Cattaraugus, New York since 1978, making it one of the longer-running Chesapeake Bay retriever programs in Western New York. The kennel is owned and operated by Jan Bobseine and the Bobseine family, situated in the Olean metropolitan area of Cattaraugus County, roughly an hour southeast of Buffalo.

The setup here is distinctly home-based rather than kennel-based. Litters are whelped inside the family home, and puppies spend their early weeks in a domestic environment before transitioning to a wood-floored stable stall at night, with full outdoor access on grass during the day. Daily off-leash group outings introduce puppies to creeks, scent trails, and the farm's resident livestock, all as part of an intentional early development approach.

The program breeds Chesapeakes for families, hunters, and companions alike. Dogs from Lion's Pride have gone on to work as licensed deer trackers, service dogs, and therapy dogs, reflecting a range of real-world roles their lines have filled over the decades.
