Ledge N' Woods Farm

Ledge N' Woods Farm breeds Hereford cattle in Sabula, IA, Jackson County near Dubuque. It has been raising Hereford cattle for several years, holding membership in the American Hereford Association and following recommended health testing protocols such as BVD and Johne’s disease screening.

The herd grazes on open pastures and calves are gently socialized from birth to foster calm temperaments among mature cattle. Rotational grazing supports soil health and allows for seasonal adjustments in shelter and forage, and animals have access to shaded paddocks as needed. Lineages are selected for maternal strength and efficient feed conversion, reflecting a focus on traits valued by area producers.

A small native-grass restoration project runs alongside the cattle program, preserving local species and enhancing habitat diversity. Local hay and grains from Iowa farms complement the herd’s diet, reinforcing ties to regional agriculture and livestock stewardship.
