Lazy K Ranch

Lazy K Ranch has been raising alpacas in Rougemont, North Carolina since December 1999, making it one of the longer-running alpaca programs in the Piedmont region, roughly 30 minutes north of Durham. Kay and Ed Rodriguez founded the ranch after purchasing their first nine alpacas while living in Southern California, where the herd was introduced to the show circuit early on.

The program has since relocated and settled onto 50 acres of pasture in North Carolina, giving the animals considerably more room to roam than earlier settings allowed. Kay has also expressed interest in exploring local textile resources and fiber processing, reflecting a focus on the full fiber side of alpaca ownership. The ranch raises both huacaya and suri alpacas for show and as farm companions, and those looking for alpacas for sale in North Carolina will find a herd shaped by more than two decades of selective breeding work.
