Krafka Harkema Suffolks raises Suffolk sheep in Montezuma, Iowa, as part of a two-generation family operation with more than 50 years in the sheep business. The program is rooted in central Iowa, roughly an hour southeast of Des Moines, and carries forward a tradition established by the Rich Krafka family.

The program participates in the National Sheep Improvement Program (NSIP), the country's largest objective genetic comparison for sheep, using it as a benchmark for measuring and tracking real performance gains. Selection focuses on structurally sound, naturally long-bodied, straight-topped, and heavily muscled animals bred to look their best slick shorn — meaning no fleece conditioning or presentation tricks.

Rams from the flock are sought for their ability to produce rapid gains and efficient feed conversion, while the ewe families are selected for natural capacity and consistent ability to raise multiple lambs across successive seasons.
