Koulee Shorthorns

Koulee Shorthorns is a family-run breeder of Shorthorn cattle in Coulee City, WA, serving Grant County and the Columbia Plateau near Wenatchee. They have more than two decades of experience and maintain registrations through the American Shorthorn Association. The cattle are raised on pasture and in well ventilated barns with regular wellness checks and routine hoof trims to support lasting health. Ted McLean and John & Shirley McLean believe in early handling and low stress environments so calves become accustomed to people from gently nurturing first contacts.

Their farm features rotational grazing, which encourages natural foraging behavior and supports local pasture ecology. They also participate in performance testing to track growth rates and maternal traits, a practice that underscores their long term commitment to quality. Several of their cows have earned national recognition for udder shape and muscling, reflecting generations of careful selection.
