Kiva de Chaco’s
Kiva de Chaco's raises fainting (myotonic) goats in Desert Hills, Arizona, a small rural community north of Phoenix in the Sonoran Desert foothills.
Run by Debbie McQueen, the program maintains a herd of both myotonic and mini silky fainting goats, with registration through the Myotonic Goat Registry (MGR) and the Mini Silky Fainting Goat Association (MSFGA). Foundation stock was sourced from breeders across the country whose herds had tested negative for CL, CAE, and Johne's Disease, and herd-wide testing for CL, CAE, Johne's, and Brucella has been conducted on-site. Does are typically bred only every other year, a deliberate choice that reflects the program's emphasis on quality over volume.
Selection standards here are specific: goats with teat spurs or other physical defects are not used in breeding, and each foundation animal was chosen for structurally correct, breed-standard conformation. Prospective buyers looking for fainting goat breeders in Arizona will find that Kiva de Chaco's represents one of the longer-standing registered programs in the state, and at the time of its founding was the only Arizona breeder registered with both the MGR and the MSFGA.
