Jim & Becky Venner Family

The Jim & Becky Venner family has raised Limousin cattle on their land near Breda, Iowa, in the rolling hills of west central Iowa, roughly an hour northeast of Council Bluffs. Their roots in the cattle business run deep: Jim's great-grandfather Henry Venner arrived from the Netherlands in 1873 and established the farm that now carries the family's fifth generation of cattle rearing.

Jim and Becky entered the registered Limousin seedstock business in 1979, building their cowherd from females sourced at several dispersal sales. Over the decades, the operation evolved from a mixed farming and feeding enterprise into a registered cow-calf program focused on producing bulls and females for both seedstock and commercial beef producers. The program's stated aim is raising heavy-muscled, user-friendly beef bulls, and their show record reflects that focus — Venner Limousin has taken Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Limousin bull honors at the Iowa State Fair, the Sioux Empire Limousin Show, and the Midwest Classic Limousin Show, among other events. Cattle from the JBV prefix have also sold through the Black Hills Stock Show in Rapid City, South Dakota.
