Jefferson Farms Alpacas & Paco Vicuñas has raised alpacas and paco-vicuñas on its Salida, Colorado property since 1995, making it one of the longer-running fiber animal operations in the Arkansas River Valley, about an hour from Pueblo.

Founded by the Levene family, the farm sits on a 60-acre property just minutes from downtown Salida and has grown into a large-scale breeding and fiber production operation. With locations in both Salida and Denver, the herd has at times numbered well over 400 animals, with alpacas and paco-vicuñas housed across spacious barns and open pastures backed by views of the Sangre de Cristo range.

The program's focus is on paco-vicuñas — a cross that combines the rapid fiber growth of the alpaca with the ultra-fine micron counts associated with the vicuña. The farm tracks fiber fineness closely, with primary production aimed at natural fiber yarns grading around 18 microns. Over the course of its history, Jefferson Farms has recorded more than 250 crias born on the property, with hands-on management of labor, delivery, and animal care handled directly on-site.
