Howlin Hound Farm

Howlin Hound Farm breeds registered Dorper sheep in Penn Valley, CA, in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Sacramento. Founded by Suzanne Koster, who has tended livestock for over a decade, the family-run farm follows guidelines from the regional sheep breeders association and conducts veterinary health tests for parasites and common conditions.

The sheep graze on rotational pastures surrounded by mature oak woodlands and have access to shelter, clean water and mineral supplements. Daily handling and calm exposure to new environments help lambs develop steady temperaments and social confidence. Breeding stock is selected for sound structure and resilience to temperature swings typical of foothill climates.

Several sheep from the flock have placed in local county fair classes for their sturdy frames and uniform fleece. The farm’s balanced nutrition plan and pasture management reflect an ongoing commitment to flock health and adaptability. Lambs are raised with quiet care to ensure consistent growth and gentle dispositions.
