Hickory Hills Jacks

Hickory Hills Jacks raises russell terriers on a working farm in Fairfield, Iowa, a small city in the rolling countryside of southeast Iowa, roughly an hour south of Iowa City.

Elly Stremsterfer and her husband got their start in 2013 when they brought home a shortie Jack Russell from Russellville Farms in Louisiana, and the program grew naturally from there. The dogs are raised in both the home and kennel, and puppies are introduced to a wide variety of situations from early on to encourage well-rounded temperaments. The Stremsterfers also run a diversified livestock operation alongside the dogs, keeping Simmental and commercial cattle as well as other animals, so the terriers grow up in an active farm environment where barn life, children, and daily outdoor activity are the norm.

The kennel is a genuine family operation. The children are involved in 4-H, show livestock, and take an active role in caring for the dogs, making Russell terrier puppies in Iowa a natural extension of a household already deeply rooted in agriculture and animal husbandry. The program is listed with the English Jack Russell Terrier Club Alliance, reflecting a focus on breeding standards consistent with that registry.
