Hanna's Upside Down Goats
Hanna's Upside Down Goats raises fainting (myotonic) goats south of Indianola, Iowa, near the small town of New Virginia in Warren County. The program was started by owner Hanna Bedwell, whose family purchased a first doe named Tico as a foundation animal and has since grown the herd through deliberate additions from farms across the country.
For those searching for fainting goat breeders in Iowa, the program has developed a show-oriented reputation within the Myotonic Goat Registry (MGR). In 2017, the herd added Permanent Grand Champion Rising Sun Goat Farm Doc Holiday as a herd sire, a buck who had earned Grand Champion honors three times at sanctioned MGR shows. That same year, a Reserve Grand Champion doe, Fieldcrest Farms Glamour Girl, was also shown. In 2019, another doe from the herd, Wallace's Crazy Acres, claimed the Reserve Grand Champion Doe title at an MGR show.
Hanna has pursued the breed beyond the farm as well, earning the MGR scholarship in 2022 and being named the Iowa FFA State Proficiency winner for goat production. The current herd includes a range of coat colors and patterns, among them moonspotted animals, and both horned and polled individuals.
