Gambit Collies has been breeding and showing collies in Chino, California, for roughly 45 years, rooted in a lifelong commitment that owner Linda Hash-Davis traces back to her teenage years. Linda and her identical twin sister, Barbara Hash-O'Keefe, attended their first dog show together 45 years ago and knew from that moment they wanted to breed and show collies. The kennel name "Gambit" was chosen because it means to strategize and make sacrifices for a better outcome — a philosophy that captures what breeding and showing dogs has meant to them.

The sisters have spent most of their lives in Southern California, with Barbara living just 15 minutes away, an arrangement that lets them keep more dogs, share two perspectives, and develop ideas together. Chino sits in the Inland Empire, roughly 35 miles east of Los Angeles, placing this collie breeder in California well within reach of a large and diverse pet-owning community.

Over 45 years of breeding, Gambit has finished more than 100 champions, won Best of Breed at the national specialty three times, and has mentored many newcomers to the breed. The Collie Club of America encourages DNA testing of breeding pairs, a tool Linda has embraced and incorporated into the program. Linda Hash-Davis is also listed as a Collie Club of America breed mentor, reflecting a long-standing role in the broader collie community.
