Chatham Collies & Shetland Sheepdogs

Chatham Collies & Shetland Sheepdogs has been breeding collies in the southwestern suburbs of Chicago for more than 45 years, operating out of Wilmington, Illinois. Owner Debbie Ferguson runs the program as a small hobby kennel on five wooded acres, where dogs are raised in the home rather than in a traditional kennel setting.

Ferguson holds a notable range of credentials in the breed community. She is an AKC-licensed judge of both collies and Shetland sheepdogs, a member and breed mentor with the Collie Club of America, and also holds memberships in the Illiana Collie Fanciers Club, the Chicago Collie Club, and the Interlocking Shetland Sheepdog Club of Monee. Shetland sheepdogs round out the breeding program alongside the collies.

Health protocols are a clear priority. All breeding stock undergoes DNA health testing, and each puppy receives an ophthalmologist eye examination, a veterinary health check, a microchip, and a written health guarantee before leaving. The program has placed a particular emphasis on breeding normal-eyed dogs, and the kennel has produced champions with wins at the Collie National specialty.
