Flying Oaks Ranch

Flying Oaks Ranch raises Mangalarga Marchador horses near Kaw City, Oklahoma, about an hour north of Ponca City in north-central Oklahoma along Kaw Lake. Rick Schatz built the program over more than two decades, beginning on a 500-acre ranch in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, where the founding herd was developed from championship bloodlines before being imported to Oklahoma.

The ranch's approach centers on natural husbandry: stallions and mares run together in open pasture, with pasture breeding and pasture foaling as standard practice. The philosophy behind this method holds that foals raised with room to roam develop greater confidence, a quality the ranch observes carrying forward through training and into each horse's adult working life.

Bloodline development has been a consistent focus. The original foundation stallion, Ator Fazenda Zouga, traces to National Champion 443 Marengo da Tosana and the Brazilian champion Netuno A.J., whose offspring have been placed across the USA, Canada, and France. A second stallion, Lendario Das Aguas JM, was imported in 2016 from Haras Das Aguas JM in southern Brazil, a farm recognized for producing Mangalarga Marchador champions and known specifically for its selective work toward a faster marcha batida gait. Horses from Flying Oaks have found homes across multiple U.S. states as well as internationally, making it one of the more established sources for Mangalarga Marchador horses for sale in Oklahoma.
