Endurance Shorthorns
Endurance Shorthorns is the cattle operation of Grand Oaks Farm, a regenerative family farm in Crawfordsville, Indiana, about 45 minutes west of Indianapolis. Scott and Kimberly Moore established the herd with registered shorthorn cattle purchased in 2016 and have since deepened their focus on heritage, or native, shorthorns whose pedigrees carry no outside breed influence from Maine-Anjou, Red Angus, or other crosses.
The pursuit of older genetics led the farm to the Heritage Shorthorn Society and to additional sourcing from respected heritage breeders, building a herd grounded in bloodlines traceable to the earliest Coates herd book records. Grazing management is central to the program: the farm uses rational grazing to move cattle across pasture in a way that gives each animal a clean bite of fresh grass and forbs with every rotation.
Grand Oaks Farm operates as a whole-farm regenerative system, and the shorthorn herd fits within that mission alongside pastured poultry and market vegetables. Those searching for heritage shorthorn cattle in Indiana will find a program here that prioritizes the integrity of the old genetics above commercial convenience. As the herd continues to grow, breeding stock is made available for purchase.
